A summa cum laude graduate of California State University, East Bay, Marla Harding earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology and English. Marla Harding has held several positions in the field of social work, and served Shelter, Inc., as an intake coordinator between 2009 and 2012.

Located in Contra Costa County, California, Shelter, Inc., strives to end homelessness by providing families with the resources they need to become self-sufficient. The organization assists families who are homeless or in danger of losing their homes by helping with rent payments or deposits and by offering transitional, emergency, and permanent housing opportunities.

Shelter, Inc., also provides assistance to veterans through its Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) program. SSVF helps veterans with very low incomes by providing funding for their first month’s rent or the security deposit, as well as assistance with utility bills. Further, the organization’s case managers help veterans locate VA benefits and other resources in the community.
